Moldovan sentenced for trafficking Ukrainian woman
A Moldovan aged 38 was sentenced to seven years in jail after he was found guilty of trying to traffic a Ukrainian woman while working as part of a criminal group, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a communique, the Prosecutor General's Office says the man went to Ukraine, where he, helped by his Ukrainian accomplices, convinced the woman that he found a well-paid job for her in a shop in the Turkish town of Antalya. Afterward, they organized the transportation of the woman from Odessa region to Chisinau, from where he was to fly to Turkey.
While at the Chisinau International Airport, the victim found out that she was to provide sexual services in Turkey and refused to go. Profiting from the fact that the woman was on the territory of a foreign state and did not have money to pay her debt, the Moldovan forced her to continue the trip.
However, on March 6 this year the woman was stopped by border guards at the Chisinau Airport. According to the prosecutors, the court decided to confiscate the material evidence used by the culprit to commit the offense – US$1,000, an Opel Omega car and his mobile phone.
The ruling can be appealed to a higher court.
