Moldovan senior state officials offer condolences over Russian plane crash

President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Pavel Filip transmitted messages of condolence following the May 5 plane crash at the Sheremetyevo airport of Moscow. According to the Russian press, more than 40 people died in the crash, IPN reports.

“We learned about the Sheremetyevo plane crash that resulted in heavy casualties with deep sadness. In the name of the people of the Republic of Moldova and in my name, I express compassion and solidarity with the President of Russia and the Russian people whom we support in these hard moments,” says President Dodon’s message posted on Facebook.

“I was shocked by the news of the tragic plane accident at Sheremetyevo that claimed so many lives. We are grieving together with the families of the victims and all the people of Russia,” Prime Minister Pavel Filip wrote in a message on Twitter.

The press reported that 41 people died after a Russian plane made an emergency landing and burst into flames just after takeoff from Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport. Two children are among the dead. The Sukhoi Superjet-100 bound for Murmansk had 73 passengers and five crew members. The region of Murmansk has announced a three-day mourning period.
