Moldovan scientific community urges MPs to elect head of state

The scientific community in Moldova calls upon the parliamentary parties to sit at the negotiation table and try to reach a consensus so as to elect the head of state. The academicians consider that the representation of the political organizations in Parliament will not change essentially if new early elections are held, the Academy of Sciences of Moldova says in a communique, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The academicians express their concern about the deepening of the political and economic crisis in the country. They say that the ratio of forces represented in the current legislative body shows the level of support offered by the people to the political parties. “It seems as if the political parties, in their actions, promote mainly group interests rather than the interests of the society. Therefore, we consider that it is our duty to remind the party leaders that the national interests are above everything else,” the scientific community says in a letter. The academicians say the blocking of the election of the head of state when the social and political situation is difficult leads to the evident malfunctioning of the representative authorities. “Given that the legislation does not clearly describe the procedure for electing the President of Moldova, we consider that the problem can be solved only by conciliation and reasonable compromise in the interests of the country and the whole society,” the letter says.
