The team of Moldovan rescuers who went to Turkey to help with the rescue effort following the devastating quakes safely pulled a boy aged three from beneath the rubble of a building that collapsed as a result of the earthquakes, IPN reports.
According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the child got stuck under the debris and stayed there for four days. The rescuers used special search equipment and managed to take him out alive.
“Most probably, the child during the disaster was protected by one of the realities who was regrettably found dead near the child,” said the Inspectorate.
The Moldovan rescuers started the research and rescue mission on Thursday morning after they were assigned work in the most seriously damaged part of Hatay Province in Turkey.
The death toll from the quakes in Turkey and Syria rose to over 17,000.
