The Parliaments of Moldova and Poland on July 25 set up the Parliamentary Assembly of the two countries, during the visit paid to Chisinau by the Marshal of the Polish Sejm Grzegorz Schetyna, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Corman, chairman of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy and European integration, opened officially the ceremony, saying the idea of creating a joint parliamentary assembly appeared during the visit made by Andrzej Halicki, the head of the Sejm’s foreign policy commission, to Chisinau this February. “It is significant that we launch this Parliamentary Assembly in the period when Poland holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union and this fact represents Poland’s support to our European integration aspirations,” he stated. Head of Parliament and Acting President Marian Lupu said that Moldova considers Poland a strategic partner both at bilateral and multilateral levels. “Poland is a perfect state and we have many things to learn from it in the European integration process,” he said, adding that the Moldovan-Polish Parliamentary Assembly is a very important platform for experience exchange. Marshal Grzegorz Schetyna said that Poland has experience in constituting parliamentary assemblies and by signing this act they established an open partnership with Moldova. “We are here to guide Moldova on the path to European integration. The road is difficult, but there is a happy ending,” he said. Grzegorz Schetyna was accompanied to Chisinau by a parliamentary delegation consisting of Sejm Deputy Marshal Ewa Kierzkowska, Polish lawmakers and senators. Each of the delegations to the Moldovan-Polish Parliamentary Assembly will consist of ten lawmakers representing different groups. The Moldovan Communist MPs did not attend the ceremony held to institute the assembly.
