Moldovan police and Transnistrian militia to inventory munitions in security zone

The Unified Military Command together with the Moldovan police and Transnistrian militia will make an inventory of the munitions possessed by the peacekeeping forces and the police and militia in the security zone, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the member of the Joint Control Commission Ion Leahu, the inventorying of the military equipment and weapons in the security zone was discussed at an ordinary meeting of the Commission in Tighina on October 29. Chisinau and Tiraspol expressed different positions on this issue. The Moldovan delegation insisted that the inventory be made by the peacekeeping forces and the militia and the police separately. The Transnistrian delegation said they should draw up a joint list. Despite contradictions, the members of the Commission agreed that the inventory will be made by January 2010, with the participation of the Unified Military Command, the Moldovan police and the Transnistrian militia. They will also check how the munitions are kept. Asked where the munitions come from, Leahu said that they want to find out this too. “We hope that the inventorying will help us determine where they come from. We will be examining the weapons found by the people and given to the police or seized during raids,” he added, stressing that they aim to prevent the use of illegally held arms for criminal purposes. Leahu also said that the given measure has no connection with the grenade explosion that happened in Chisinau on October 14. “However, the grenades in Moldova and Transnistria cannot be bought at the market. They are taken from somewhere and we intend to find our from where,” he said. The next meeting of the Joint Control Commission was scheduled for November 5.
