Officials headed by premier Zinaida Greceanai laid flowers to the Eternitate Memorial Complex in Chisinau, commemorating the Soviet heroes fallen in the Second World War. The event has been attended by veterans of the Soviet army, who laid their flowers after the officials. Zinaida Grecianai has told journalists that “when one respects the past, the country respects its future and present.” “It's a tragic day for us, which must not be forgotten, neither the fallen in battles must be forgotten. We cannot forget our past, we cannot forget our memory,” said the prime-minister. “I came here with my colleagues from the government to commemorate the ones who fought for the integrity of the Soviet Union,” answered first deputy premier Igor Dodon when asked by journalists whether he attended the event commemorating the Romanian officers having fallen in battles to free Basarabia and Northern Bukovina from the Soviet occupation. The event has been attended by Russian ambassador to Moldova Valery Kuzmin.
