Moldovan officials and European diplomats spoke about the EU in the Great National Assembly Square

“Moldova is an European state and this is your celebration as well”. This is how Miroslav Lajcak, Managing Director for Russia, Eastern Neighborhood and the Western Balkans in the EU's External Action Service, began his speech at the opening of Europe Days in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. The European official explained how the European Union appeared and the historical stages the community passed through until today. Miroslav Lajcak appreciated Moldova’s interest in European integration. “Real cooperation, more than political statements, is the path to follow for each nation. In order for this effort to be accomplished, a firm engagement is needed, as well as a style of tolerance and compromise”, declared Miroslav Lajcak. Moldovan dignitaries and EU ambassadors delivered speeches on the stage in the National Great Assembly Square. “Moldova is in Europe, but we must ensure that European values are implemented here, for our people’s benefit. Unity in diversity, the basic principle of the EU, must be close to our activities”, said Prime Minister Vlad Filat. The interim Mayor of Chisinau, Nistor Grozavu, mentioned that Europe Day was more than just an occasion to learn about European values, but a chance for people to say what they want and where the country should be. “It’s a proud occasion for us, because Chisinau is on the forefront of European integration aspirations”, said Nistor Grozavu. An exhibition of European cuisine, with concerts and debates was organized in the Great National Assembly Square. The holiday ended with a concert of Stefano Nutti from Italy and Brainstorm from Latvia.
