Twenty five Moldovan officers attended a U.S.-sponsored Interview and Source Development Training Program, designed for Moldovan law enforcement bodies fighting human trafficking, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release from the U.S. Embassy in Moldova, the training program was taught by officers of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation and included specialized courses on basic interview techniques, victim interview techniques, examination of human trafficking investigations (case studies) and development of sources in human trafficking investigations. Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Border Guards Service, Customs Service, Center for Combating Economic Crime and Corruption, and Information and Security Service of Moldova attended.
This course is the first in a series of U.S. Government-sponsored training programs for the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The following additional anti-human trafficking law enforcement courses will be provided within the year: task force methodology, legal fundamentals, public affairs and media relations, victim assistance, investigating public corruption, crime scene investigations, instructor development and officer safety and survival tactics.
At the graduation ceremony, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau donated four vehicles and specialized police equipment to the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons, with more donations to follow.
The training program is sponsored and funded by the Embassy’s law enforcement assistance program. This project is a component of Amendment III of the Letter of Agreement between the United States and the Republic of Moldova on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement Affairs. This Letter of Agreement provided funding and technical assistance to the Government of Moldova in establishing the Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons.
