Moldovan officers get trained in border enforcement

Thirty Moldovan officers graduated yesterday, Jan 18, from a US-sponsored Border Enforcement and Interdiction Training Programme designed for Moldovan law enforcement bodies, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from the U.S. Embassy, the goal of the training programme was to help Moldovan law enforcement to enhance the security of state borders and to fight transnational crime. The training was taught by officers of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and included specialised courses, such as passenger document analysis; behaviour analysis and observational techniques; interview and examination techniques; and money laundering fundamentals. Officers from the Moldovan Border Guards Service, the Moldovan Ministry of Interior and the Moldovan Customs Service attended. In addition to theoretical classroom instruction and practical exercises, the participants of the training received specialised examination equipment, including mini long-wave ultraviolet lamps and glass magnifiers, which they will keep for further use in their work. Conducted 14-18 January 2008 in Chisinau, the training programme is sponsored and funded by the U.S. Embassy’s Border Modernisation and Control Project, which is a component of the current Letter of Agreement between the United States and Moldova on Narcotics Control and Law Enforcement Affairs.
