Moldovan obstetricians attend trainings in implementing modern perinatal technologies

Specialists from Lithuania and Russia instructed during 2 weeks a group of 42 midwifes, medical assistants, obstetricians and other birth-related specialists from the Municipal Perinatal Center and the Institute of Scientific Researches in the field of Mother and Child Health Protection in light of implementing modern perinatal technologies proposed by the World Health Organization (WHO). According to the Press Service of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection (MSPS), the trainings took place within the frameworks of the seminar “Essential care in perinatology”, organized by MSPS in collaboration with WHO. The participants learned practical skills which are necessary for the birth process according to the recommendations of WHO, as well as the skills necessary for dealing with emergency births. At the same time, within the frameworks of the seminar the transformation of the Municipal Perinatal Center and of the Scientific Research Institute in friendly Centers for families was initiated. Individual birth rooms and homelike conditions were created. In this way partnership, breast feeding, and involvement of patients in making decisions will be promoted. Moldova was designated by WHO in 2002 as pilot country for the implementation of the Program “Pregnancy without risks” for the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe. Within the frameworks of the Program, revision and elaboration of policies in the field of mother and child health protection takes place, national capacities in elaborating management protocols of clinic conditions are created, the staff of maternity hospitals is instructed, and the practice of maternity hospitals is changed, being directed towards creating friendly maternity hospitals for families.
