Moldovan MPs to attend PACE winter session

A Moldovan parliamentary delegation will take part in the works of the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), to be held in Strasbourg on January 21-25, 2007. The agenda of the ordinary 2008 PACE session includes the presentation by Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, of a report regarding the current state of affairs of the CoE, the election of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly as successor to Rene van der Linden, discussions related to Georgia’s honouring of obligations and commitments to the CoE, and hearing of reports on legislative elections in Russia and presidential elections in Georgia. The parliamentarians of the CoE member states will also tackle the problem of the future Kosovo status, will elect judges to the European Court of Human Rights and will discuss the effects of the global warming and ecological disasters. The PACE will also debate a report on procedures regarding the rights and obligations of a democratic parliament opposition. On January 24, the PACE will hear the report on the disappearance of newborn babies for illegal adoption in Europe, which contains a special chapter regarding the situation in Moldova. The Moldovan delegation is headed by Maria Postoico, Vice Speaker of Parliament. The delegation includes MPs Vladimir Turcan, Valeriu Cosarciuc, Oleg Tulea and Vlad Cubreacov.
