Moldovan MPs spoke about propaganda media in Moldova at PACE
Moldovan MPs spoke about the propaganda media institutions in Moldova at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and about the need to find balance between defending freedom of expression and journalists’ responsibility, in order to provide correct and impartial information to the public, Info-Prim Neo reports.
According to a press release of the Liberal Party, MP Ana Gutu declared during the spring session of PACE that freedom of expression in online environments is far from respecting international regulation, referring to unjustified attacks from biased mass media that promote racial or national hate and xenophobia.
Ana Gutu said that in Moldova there are “irresponsible news portals”. “These portals promote racial, national hate and xenophobia. Unfortunately, legal regulation in this domain are often treated, sometimes by international officials, as a harmful to democracy, which isn’t true by any means”, said the MP.
MP Igor Corman said that this decision has no precedent, just like the violations committed by NIT. “The Coordinating Council of the Audiovisual (CCA) is an autonomous authority, working according to the law, and the NIT license was revoked because of multiple and repeated violations of law, including the lack of pluralism of opinions, hate speech, open propaganda for the Communist Party”, Igor Corman declared in Strasbourg, quoted by the Parliament press service.
During the meeting between the head of the Moldovan delegation, Liliana Palihovici, and PACE chairman Jean-Claude Mignon, the MP said that NIT had been monitored by CCA for a long time. The monitoring was done in accordance with the methodology developed by European experts and accepted by specialized NGOs. NIT has been monitored 13 times in 3 years.
The spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe takes place in Strasbourg between April 23 and 27.
