Moldovan MPs said the protests in Romania should be a lesson for the Moldovan politicians, but have dissimilar opinions when they compare the situation over the Prut River and that in the Republic of Moldova. The topic was developed in the talk show “Moldova live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
Democratic MP Sergiu Sarbu considers the situation in Romania cannot be compared with that in the Republic of Moldova, where there is a draft law on tax amnesty. “There is no similarity between the penal amnesty in Romania and the tax amnesty in our country. We adopted a law on general penal amnesty on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the declaration of Moldova’s independence. As regards the bill on tax amnesty, it was proposed for public debates and subject to criticism and it was ultimately decided to take a break. We promised that this law will not be adopted until we get the appraisals of international organizations so that there is no room for interpretation on it,” stated the MP.
Unaffiliated MP Valeriu Giletski said Romania’s lesson should be learned in Chisinau too so as not to allow similar situations. “The protests in Romania showed that the politicians should think better before doing something. The way in which the ordinance was adopted arouses questions,” he noted.
Socialist MP Vladimir Turcan said the events in Bucharest influenced the Moldovan MPs. “Everyone knows that the bill on tax amnesty was drafted in order to allow legalizing ill-gotten gains. We didn’t support this bill. If the events in Romania hadn’t been witnessed, I think this draft law would have been already included in the agenda,” he stated.
