A Moldovan man yesterday tested positive for monkeypox after returning from Paris, the National Agency for Public Health announced.
He developed symptoms – fatigue, abundant perspiration and a rash – last week.
After landing in Chisinau, the man went straight to the Emergency Hospital, accompanied by a friend, after which he was admitted to the Toma Ciorba Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Samples were taken and processed at the Agency’s laboratory. “The RT-PCR test for monkeypox returned positive. An epidemiological investigation is underway. The patient’s condition is fair and stable”, said the Ministry of Health.
The first monkeypox case in Moldova was reported on August 8 in a foreign national who had traveled for business to the United States.
