Moldovan juniors bring bronze from Ukrainian Wushu Cup

Moldova's junior team coached by master Nicolae Mihalache brought home two bronze medals from the Ukrainian Wushu Cup held in Odessa, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Moldovan team participated in the following classic wushu events: barehanded – fist (quan shu); short weapons – single-edged sword (dao shu); and long weapons – staff (gun shu). Both medals were won by 13-year-old Andrei Cataraga in the southern fist (nan quan) event and southern single-edged sword (nan dao) event. Vladislav Somnic occupied the fourth place in the southern fist event, while Veaceslav Zabun occupied the sixth place in the most contested category (17 fighters), the southern single-edged sword event. The competition brought together 180 fighters. Wushu is both an exhibition and a full-contact sport derived from the traditional Chinese martial arts.
