The best journalistic materials about cultural diversity will be awarded at an international contest. The ADAMI Media Prize was created to encourage audio-visual journalists and media professionals in the EaP countries to focus upon the themes of migration, integration and cultural diversity. The main condition of the contest is to present materials about the fight against discrimination. The ADAMI prize will be awarded for the first time in 2015.
The prize aims to increase media interest in the promotion of cultural diversity in Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The contest winners will get a trophy and a reward of at least €2,000.
“The prize will be provided in six categories: recreational programs (artistic films, animated cartoons, etc.); informative programs (documentaries, talk shows); newscasts and short films; young specialists (materials that weren’t broadcast on TV channels, but were presented at different festivals; websites and online video materials. The young specialists category is open to journalists and producers younger than 28,” said ADAMI project director Stefan Tolz.
Director of the Independent Journalism Center Nadine Gogu said such a contest is welcome because the journalists in Moldova do not write much about the fight against discrimination. “The media play the role of uniting, not dividing. Statistics show that many sites on the media market incite hatred. I hope this competition will motivate our journalists to write more about cultural diversity,” added Nadine Gogu.
“In Moldova, there are many problems related to discrimination on different grounds. Information is the key instrument for overcoming these. This contest draws producers’ attention to the discrimination against minorities and this is very important,” said the member of the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination and Ensuring of Gender Equality Ian Feldman.
Those who want can register on the website adamimediaprize.eu until October 25 and should attach the works with which they will compete. The winners will be awarded in Tbilisi on December 10.
The project was initiated in cooperation with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Germany and the European Broadcasting Union, with financial support from the Civis Media Foundation.
