Moldovan Government: present formula for solving Kosovo problem destabilises situation in Europe

The declaration of independence by Kosovo on February 17 and the recognition of Kosovo by a number of UN member states arouse Moldova’s concern, a communiqué from the Government says, cited by Info-Prim Neo. Though the Kosovo problem is unique by content, such a settlement formula represents not only a violation of Serbia’s territorial integrity, but also a serious factor that destabilises the situation in Europe, a dangerous stimulant to the activity of the separatist regions in all the zones of conflict. The Moldovan Government’s further position on the events in Kosovo will be based in continuation on the stance of the internationally recognised state, the Republic of Serbia, on the stipulations of the Helsinki Final Act, the UN Status and on the existent principles of international law, the communiqué says. Kosovo's parliament unanimously endorsed a declaration of independence from Serbia, in a historic session on February 17. Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci promised a democracy that respected the rights of all ethnic communities. Kosovo’s independence is backed by the United States and a part of the Europeans states. Russia and other EU member states, including Greece and Spain, said they will not recognize Kosovo.
