Moldovan Government closely following Romania’s bill enabling military interventions abroad

The Moldovan Government is closely following the legislative proposal that would allow Romania to launch military interventions to protect Romanians abroad. This was stated by the Government’s spokesperson Daniel Vodă after being asked by reporters for a comment, given that a significant number of Moldovans hold the Romanian citizenship as well.

“We are closely following the developments in the region caused by the Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. It is very clear that on the European continent there is a general trend of strengthening the defense sector, and this is also the case of Romania, which is a devoted friend of the Republic of Moldova. The authorities in Chisinau, the Government, will follow this initiative, which we understand is in the project phase at this stage, so there are internal consultations, discussions, and we will follow them”, Daniel Vodă told a press conference.

According to him, Moldova is also building resilient institutions to defend the interests of Moldovan citizens in the current security environment. “The Moldovan authorities have transparently communicated every time who are the friends of our country. Every time, in this row of friends, Romania has occupied a special place. The Romanian authorities have also commented exhaustively that they will continue to support the Republic of Moldova on all dimensions of dialogue and cooperation”, said the Government’s spokesperson.
