Moldovan firefighters complete Greece mission

The 25-strong delegation of the Moldovan Emergencies Inspectorate has completed its mission in Greece, where it joined multinational efforts to fight wildfires on the island of Evia. Alongside their Romanian colleagues, Moldovan firefighters located and extinguished fires, rescuing wildlife in the process, IPN reports.

The Inspectorate said in a press release that the Moldovan firefighters and rescuers extinguished more than 420 fire outbreaks, downed 22 trees and discharged more than 30,000 liters of water on a total area of 300 ha. The rescuers were coordinated by Greek officers and received orders from an operational base located in the Prokopi region.

A fleet of Moldovan and Romanian emergency response vehicles has left Greece and is headed back home.

Greek prime minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis wrote on Twitter to express gratitude to the nations that have sent help to Greece. “On behalf of the Greek people, I would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all the countries that have sent assistance and resources to help fight the wildfires. We thank you for standing by Greece during these trying times,” twitted Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Moldova is among 22 countries that sent help to Greece to fight the devastating wildfires. Our delegation departed on July 9.
