About 400 farmers from the country gathered on Saturday, November 24, at the National Palace “Nicolae Sulac” to celebrate their professional day. They were congratulated by dignitaries and then enjoyed the music and dances of local artists, Info-Prim Neo reports. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said during the festivity that results in agriculture were needed not for a specific market, but for all markets. “We are part of the world and must face competition, which is not about east or west. We must be competitive in the whole world. Next year is looked forward to with great hope because of the losses we suffered this year and because of the budget approved for next year”. Vlad Filat added that an economic growth of 4% is expected in 2013 and this growth is largely based on income from agriculture. Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Bumacov remarked that the sowing looked good and they will help avoid a bread crisis in the future. “Agriculture accounts for 15% of the GDP, provides 45% of exports and creates the most jobs. Moldova is a small country territorially, but is potentially strong from an agricultural perspective”. President Nicolae Timofti did not attend the festivity, but congratulated the farmers.
