Moldovan exporters fully used quotas on wine and wheat granted by EU
In 2009, the Moldovan exporters used completely the quotas on wine and wheat provided by the European Union, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the Ministry of Economy. Last year, the Ministry had issued 2,820 authorizations for the export of goods included in the system of autonomous trade preferences with the EU.
The exporters fully used the quota of 30,000 tonnes of wheat and 700,000 decaliters of grape wine. The export quotas on white sugar was 88.77% used, on corn – 98.5%, on barley - 87.1%.
The quotas granted by the EU for animal products have not been used as Moldova did not yet obtain the status of third country for exporting such products to the EU market.
Last autumn, after the installation of the new Government, the aligning of the national compliance assessment system with the European one was resumed. Steps are now taken to improve the production conditions at companies that process animal products. There are implemented modern storage and packing technology.
The EU granted autonomous trade preferences to Moldova for the period between 2008 and 2012. The quotas increase every year. The export quota on wheat for 2010 is 35,000 tonnes, as against 30,000 tonnes last year, on barley – 30,000 tonnes as opposed to 25,000 tonnes, on corn – 25,000 tonnes compared with 20,000 tonnes. The quota on white sugar was raised from 18,000 to 24,000 tonnes, while on grape wine from 700,000 decaliters to 800,000 decaliters.
Moldova hopes this year the export of animal products will be made possible.
