A team of Moldovan experts will immediately leave for the Ivory Coast to take part as observers in the investigation of the October 14 plane crash that claimed the lives of four Moldovans. Another two Moldovans were admitted to a French military hospital. The cargo aircraft was registered in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
The plane performed flights for the French army and had ten persons on board, six of whom were Moldovans, while four were French citizens.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip expressed his condolences to the families of those who died and ordered to offer them the necessary support and information. He also ordered to take all the necessary measures to repatriate the dead Moldovans.
In the October 15 meeting of the cell crisis chaired by Pavel Filip, it was noted that the accident occurred amid difficult weather conditions. The plane crashes 500 meters from the Abidjan airport.
Vice director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Moldova Nicolae Buzu said the plane belonged to the company Valan International Air Cargo and transported freight based on a contract with the French army. The Moldovan pilots who died had flown over 20,000 hours. The aircraft undergone capital repair works in Kyiv this February. Both construction experts and experts of the plane producer authorized the performance of flights.
The plan was to land at 8:20am. The last contact with the crew was at 8:24am. “We contacted colleagues from France. An investigation team is working there. We are ready to send four experts to conduct an examination on the spot,” stated Nicolae Buzu.
Experts of the Civil Aviation Authority said all the signals received from the crew during the flight were good. Reports came in each four minutes. The other two Moldovans who survived are technicians. They said the aircraft fell into the water when landing. The engines didn’t malfunction.
