The Moldovan economy has stabilized and the recent rises in salary for certain budget-funded employees have nothing to do with the upcoming elections, said Nick Georgiadis, EU High Level Advisor to the Moldovan Economy Minister, at a press club dedicated to European integration, Info-Prim Neo reports. When asked to comment on criticism that the recent salary rises have electoral motivation, Nick Georgiadis offered a “generic answer”. “I don't think that the budget, especially when it comes to salaries, should be affected by a pre-election or a non-election period, and I don't think this is the case in Moldova. The economy has stabilized. “I was honored to participate on the Moldovan side in the IMF negotiations and I think your government has managed to strike a very good deal, anyway better than the ones that Greece and Romania stroke. The reason why the IMF signed the memorandum the way they did is the conviction that your government takes the budget very seriously and that it is not going to play with it because you have elections. Credibility towards donors, because Moldova is to a great extent a donor-dependent country, is very important, and I think you are doing well in this respect”, said Nick Georgiadis. Nick Georgiadis says he has followed Moldova's evolution for 18 years and thinks this is a critical period for reform. “Many of the necessary parameters are in place and, with a little bit of luck, I mean with the crisis being overcome in Europe and with the country pursuing its reform agenda the way it has set, I firmly believe that the next years will be very good for Moldova”. The EU High Level Policy Advice Mission to the Republic of Moldova consists of 9 international experts who advise the management of public institutions in carrying out democratic reforms and acceleration of association and further economic integration between EU and Moldova. The EU Advisory Group has experts at the following institutions: the Prime Minister’s Office, State Chancellery, the Ministries of Economy, Finance, Justice, Interior, Agriculture and Food Industry, Tax Inspectorate and Public Procurement Agency.
