A team consisting of 22 doctors and medical assistants from the Republic of Moldova will leave for Lețcani commune of Iași County on October 18 to provide assistance at the modular hospital that is critically short of medical personnel, Moldovan Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco posted on Facebook, being quoted by IPN.

“Romania is now in a critical situation, with indicators that are two times more serious than in our country, on the crest of a killing wave. It is an honor for us to be able to respond in the same way as blood is thicker than water,” the minister wrote on her Facebook page.

Ala Nemerenco reminded that Romania has always been near the Republic of Moldova in hard times. “At the start of the pandemic, when we were all only learning, they send a team of doctors to us to lend us a hand. Later, when our colleagues were dying, tens and tens of trucks with protective equipment came,” said the minister, noting that the neighboring country also donated over half a million COVID-19 vaccine doses that saved lives.

In a comment on Ala Nemerenco’s post, Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova Daniel Ioniță thanked for “the nice gesture of solidarity!”. “Having you near in such hard moments matters a lot,” he wrote.
