Moldovan diplomats buy suits with Foreign Ministry's money
The ambassadors of Moldova wear suits, shirts, shoes, coats and ties bought from state money. The costs for clothing are covered from the embassy's budget and total US$1,000, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Valeriu Turea, spokesman for the Moldovan Foreign Ministry, said the embassies use the regulations governing their financial activity that were approved by the Government of Moldova in 2003. The regulations provide what costs are covered from the budget.
Thus, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration bears the cost of round-trip tickets for the diplomats and their families, economy class, and baggage-related costs. The baggage must not exceed 80 kg per person and 240 kg per family.
Among other costs covered are the health insurance, accommodation, depending on the category of the personnel and the embassy, the cleaning works, local taxes and two leave trips to the country.
The diplomats pay for the public utilities such as electricity, water, heat, gas and phone by themselves. Valeriu Turea said the phone conversations of the ambassadors are paid for by the state as they are persons with a special status.
The Moldovan diplomats' salaries vary between 1,700 and 2,000 euros.
