Moldovan dies in Sudan plane crash

A citizen of the Republic of Moldova died as a result of a plane crash in Sudan. The victim’s family asked for assistance in transporting the body home. The information was confirmed for IPN by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

“We confirm that a citizen of the Republic of Moldova died as a result of a plane crash in Sudan. His relatives sought assistance in repatriating the body and consular officials of the MFAEI are making the necessary effort to offer support,” said the Ministry.

Reuters reported that nine were killed, including four military personnel, after a civilian plane crashed in Port Sudan airport due to a technical failure.

The Civil Aviation Authority said the Moldovan who died in the plane crash in Sudan had over 35 years’ experience and formed part of the technical personnel, being specialized in electronic equipment on board. He worked for a number of national airlines, including Valan and Air Moldova. “The Civil Aviation Authority reaffirms its solidarity and compassion with the grieving families of the crew and technical personnel. This is an incommensurable loss for the personnel of which they formed part and for civil aviation in general.”
