Moldovan diaspora refutes reports that voting abroad was not possible
A number of public associations of the Moldovan diaspora in Italy and France deny that the Moldovans abroad could not vote because of the negligence of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, as the Media Association “Pro-Diaspora” and the Movement “Democracy at Home” claimed in a news conference, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The documents provided in that conference were used exclusively for personal purposes, not to defend the voting rights of the Moldovans settled abroad,” it is said in a protest note signed by 27 persons representing four public organizations and a number of members of the electoral offices of polling places established in Italy and France.
The representatives of the diaspora say that most of the persons who spoke in that conference did not have the right to make those statements. “We consider that the direct attacks on the Foreign Ministry form part of a scenario aimed at exerting pressure on an institution that during the last year and a half took a number of positive measures to help the diaspora and promote the country’s European future. This pressure is designed to influence the formation of the PL – PLDM – PDM coalition and is thus condemnable and immoral,” says the note.
The signatories also say that the protagonists of the news conference did not make effort to help organize the elections abroad, but contributed to the massive misinformation of the people. The last number of the journal “Pro Diaspora” contained promotional materials in favor of only one election runner and this is against the law.
“‘The 929 votes expressed on A4 sheets should be validated. We will not allow our message to be abusively used by outsiders of the Moldovan politics for personal purposes,” reads the note.
The signatories dissociate themselves from and condemn the methods used by the Media Association “Pro-Diaspora” and the Movement “Democracy at Home”, saying they will inform the European organizations that finance the project “Pro-Diaspora” about the practices used by the journal with the same name.
In a news conference on December 15, the two organizations asked that the Central Election Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration publicly apologize for not being able to ensure voting conditions abroad on November 28.
