Moldovan delegation to participate in CIS Council of Heads of Government

On May 25, a Moldovan delegation will take part in the works of the CIS Council of Heads of Government. The event will be held in Yalta, Ukraine. The Council of Ministers approved the members of the Moldovan delegation to this forum. The delegation consisting of 13 persons will be headed by Premier Vasile Tarlev. The delegation also includes Eugenia Kistruga, deputy-minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration; Sergiu Stati, ambassador of Moldova to Ukraine; Alexandru Prigorschi, senior state advisor for external cooperation, etc. Last year, MPs representing Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) proposed a draft regarding the denunciation of the constitution agreement of CIS, but later it was withdrawn. They argued their decision by the fact that their initiative would not get the support of the majority faction. According to AMN MPs, Moldova’s presence in these organisations is an impediment to joining the EU, and the fact that a large number of agreements are not observed dissolves any reason to keep the membership of the respective organisations. The MPs also referred to Russia’s military presence in Moldova, the increase in gas price and the ban on imports of wine and agricultural products. At the same time, in the summer of 2006, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbaev suggested a programme of reforming the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), within the framework of the informal Summit, held in Moscow. However, the new concept did not make it on the discussion table. CIS was created in December 1991, and the Moldovan Parliament ratified the CIS constitution agreement on April 8, 1994.
