Moldovan delegation asks JCC to react against presence of ‘border guards’ near Cocieri

The Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) is asking the body to react against the illegal presence of so-called “border guards” within the Security Zone. In particular, two vehicles of the Transnistrian “border guards” were spotted on December 2 near Cocieri, a village under Chisinau’s control.

The Reintegration Bureau said in a press release that the Moldovan delegation formally wrote to all JCC components asking them to include the issue on the latest meeting’s agenda. The delegation considers that the so-called “border guards” are constantly disregarding the JCC rules, limiting freedom of movement within the jurisdiction of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces and violating other fundamental rights and legitimate interests of people.

Debates during the latest regular JCC meeting were unsuccessful in including the issue on the agenda, says the press release.

However, the Joint Control Commission was able to approve the Joint Military Command Report on the situation in the Security Zone between December 8-14. On the request of the Ukrainian delegation, nine of its ten military observers were replaced due to the expiry of their terms.
