The meeting of the Moldovan-Czech intergovernmental commission for economic cooperation will take place in Prague in October. This will examine a set of investment projects that can be implemented jointly by companies from the two states. Such an agreement was reached by Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac and Minister of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic Jan Mládek in a working meeting on June 10, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy’s press office, Octavian Calmac and Jan Mládek discussed the commercial-economic relations between Moldova and the Czech Republic, noting that the existing potential hasn’t been fully realized. They agreed to prepare a more consistent agenda with objectives in different areas for fostering the development of the bilateral commercial-economic relations until the meeting of the intergovernmental commission.

The officials conferred on the investment projects that can be initiated and implemented in the bilateral cooperation process. They agreed that the key areas include the energy, infrastructure, environment, agriculture and the transport sectors. Jan Mládek said there are many Czech companies interested in implementing investment projects in Moldova. The large number of companies at the Moldovan-Czech Business Forum staged by the Chamber of Trade and Industry of Moldova is a confirmation of this.

The Czech minister noted that the Czech Republic will support the new Moldovan Government in its efforts to implement programs to reform and modernize all the socioeconomic spheres and in achieving the objectives assumed before the development partners.

In 2015, Moldova’s exports to the Czech Republic came to US$27.67 million, while imports from this country totaled US$51.05 million. The bilateral trade represents 1.3% of Moldova’s total trade.
