Moldovan Culture Days start in Russia

The Moldovan delegation headed by Prime Minister Vlad Filat attended the opening of the Moldovan Culture Days in Russia. The scheduled events will take place between September 10 and 15 in Moscow and Sankt Petersburg, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of the Government. The festival was opened with the performance of the National Academic Ensemble of Folk Dances “Joc”, headed since 1957 by Vladimir Curbet, people’s artist of Moldova and of the former USSR. Moldovan Minister of Culture Boris Focsa and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Medinski also attended the event. Medinski said that organizing Culture Days was a great tradition which helped to learn more about the culture and lives of other peoples. “These days we’ll speak a single language, which needs no translation – the language of culture”, said the Russian Minister of Culture. Boris Focsa added that during this week, the residents of Moscow and Sankt Petersburg will be able to enjoy the Moldovan folk dances and songs, based on the century-old traditions of the Moldovans and other ethnicities living in Moldova. During the Moldovan Culture Days in Russia, the local public will enjoy the performance of Mihail Munteanu, opera singer and people’s artist of Moldova and of USSR, as well as performers of classical and instrumental music. The Moldovan Culture Days in Russia were organized for the first time in March 2002.
