Moldovan craftsmen go to festival dedicated to martsishor in Iasi

Craftsmen of the Republic of Moldova will take part in the exhibition and fair “Martsishor as a symbol and tradition” that will take place in the Romanian town Iasi during February 25 – March 5.

Craftswoman Eugenia Moldovanu from Moldova will exhibit her works made from vegetal fibers. “I made angels from straw, martsishors from thread, little men dressed in national costumes, little bells, greetings with vegetal fibers and flowers,” Eugenia Moldovanu stated for IPN’s reporter.

The program of the exhibit is varied. The particulates will represent different ethnographic zones of Romania and Moldova. “Throughout the event, the craftspeople will stage practical demonstrations and workshops to initiate children in making traditional martsishors, while groups of students will give performances,” said Eugenia Moldovanu.

This is the second festival “Martsishor as a symbol and tradition”. The organizers aim to promote traditional handicrafts in order to conserve Romanian particularities in European diversity and to pass these on to the young generation.
