Moldovan condemns Barcelona terror attack

The Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration is condemning the Thursday terrorist attack that resulted in 15 people being killed and tens others injured in the Spanish city of Barcelona.

The Ministry said in a press release the Moldovan diplomatic mission in Madrid is in contact with the local authorities to check whether Moldovan nationals were among the victims.

“The authorities in Chisinau are expressing their solidarity with the authorities of Spain, their deep regret for the loss of human lives and their sympathy to the bereaved families”, said the Ministry, reiterating Moldova’s commitment to combating all forms of terror.

Meanwhile, Moldovans visiting or staying in Barcelona are advised against visiting the Las Ramblas area and in case of emergency call the hotline +34 664598545.

On Thursday afternoon a van rammed at high speed into a crowd of people on Barcelona’s Las Ramblas promenade. After the driver fled the scene, two gunmen stormed a Turkish restaurant. Fire was also exchanged in the area of a food market nearby. Two suspects were arrested.
