The works of the sixth congress of the Communists Party from Moldova (PCRM), in power since 2001, are taking place in Chisinau. The agenda provides for examining the new draft program of the party, containing the PCRM’s development perspectives, as electing a new leadership is also expected. Opening the reunion, the leader of the party Vladimir Voronin, the incumbent president of the Republic of Moldova, has said that the importance of the new party program will tell not only on the development of the party, but also on the progress of Moldovan society and of the country’s statehood. Eugenia Ostapciuc, the leader of PCRM’s parliamentary faction, has told Info-Prim Neo that the congress will consider a new program, a pro-European one. Ostapciuc asserts the event has special importance for all the party members, but also for Moldovan society. “For myself, the congress represents the life itself, because I am in the party since 1973”, Eugenia Ostapciuc confessed. Asked by the agency’s reporter, party members from different raions say they expect to learn more about the new program proposed by the PCRM. According to them, the event is important, as it is discussing the further go of the party, as well as the methods of fortifying the new forces in order to make the life of the party continue. They say the PCRM’s goal is to better the social and economic situation of the people. “The people’s welfare has always been the party’s main goal. We are certain that only the PCRM has put the country on the path of progress and we further expect the same activities on behalf of the PCRM,” says a party member from Drochia district. 412 delegates join the congress representing Communist parties from Ukraine and China, and the Socialist Alliance from Romania. For the first time, the event is broadcasted live on the internet through the PCRM’s official web-page at www.pcrm.md.
