Representatives of the civil society, joining opinion leaders, lawyers, political analysts, condemn the violence acts of April 7 and the actions undertaken by the Moldovan authorities to crack them down. In statement issued on April 10, they say “in Moldova prerequisites ripen to install a police and dictatorial regime,” Info-Prim Neo reports. In the statement signed by 21 representatives of the civil society, they add the peaceful actions of April 7 were used to cause violent and criminal actions erupting in damaging the headquarters of the Parliament and the Presidency. They condemn the way in which the police responded: “the actions undertaken by the law-enforcing authorities were not able to curb the acts of violence and vandalism,” reads the statement. “The peaceful protests erupted on the background of the suspicions related to the fairness of the vote and the mistrust in the public institutions, including the ones managing the electoral process. The post-election statements of the President led only to inflame those suspicions and stirred citizens to go to streets.” The signatories consider that “Vladimir Voronin's extreme accusations in the address of some political leaders, that they would allegedly have attempted a coup d'etat, a putsch and an anti-constitutional overturn – polarize society.” According to the representatives of the civil society, the authorities fully capitalize on the Chisinau events “in order to intimidate the opposition and the civil society, to crack down on the fundamental rights and freedoms, still so fragile. The authorities went on restricting the access to the public broadcasters; restricted the access to the Internet, to info resources. A huge brain-washing campaign has been launched to compromise the participants in the peaceful protests, the political opposition, the partisans of different opinions.” They ask the authorities “to avoid the political persecutions, to refrain from any actions and statements conducting to worsen the situation, to insure the citizens' right to free movement, to insure the freedom of opinion and expression, the inviolability of individual freedom and the citizens' safety, to remove all the suspicions about the fairness of the results of the parliamentary elections.” They also ask the company “Teleradio-Moldova" to cover, fairly and impartially, the social-political developments after the April 5 elections with the equal and non-discriminate participation of all the sides involved.
