Moldovan citizens in Transnistria feel betrayed by Chisinau

Moldovan citizens living on the left bank of the Nistru River feel they have been betrayed by Chisinau authorities, Mihai Daru, citizen of Moldova, who lives in the eastern zone, said on Tuesday, March 13. Daru made this statement during the conference attended by several residents of the eastern zone. They spoke about the abuses of Tiraspol administration and about the lack of any support from Chisinau. In particular, the speakers complained about the prohibition imposed by Transnistrian authorities to have car licence plates registered with Moldovan legal bodies. Daru mentioned he has repeatedly confronted with such cases, while Moldova’s legal authorities did not intervene in settling the situation. Moldova’s leadership is very little concerned about the defence of the rights of Transnistrian citizens, he concluded. Ion Manole, head of “Promo-Lex” Organisation, an advocate for the rights of the Moldovan citizens from Transnistria, stated that Moldova should defend its citizens and protect their rights even though it does not have total control over the left bank of Nistru River. The fact that a car belonging to a Moldovan citizen has been detained at the so-called Dubasari customs for a fortnight, while the authorities do not undertake anything and can not guarantee the observation of the owner’s rights, is another proof that the existent mechanism for monitoring the situation in the region is inefficient. The care registered in Moldova can stand only 60 days on the territory controlled by the separatist authorities in the eastern zone of Moldova.
