Moldovan citizen Vitalie Eryomenko has been held in a prison in Transnistria for three years. In a news conference at IPN, his sister Ala Gherman said that in the period the man hasn’t been examined by a doctor, though he asked, while his parents, wife and children cannot visit him. According to Ala Gherman, a politician from the right bank of the Nistru River is interested in the illegal detention of her brother.

Before being arrested and sentenced to 12 years in jail, Vitalie Eryomenko managed a bakery complex in Slobozia. Troubles appeared in 2010, when the man legalized the documents needed for selling bakery products on the right bank of the Nistru. “Vlad Filat (former Prime Minister – e.n.) called a meeting where he instructed the competent bodies to prevent the products from Slobozia from reaching the right bank. These products were several times cheaper,” said Ala Gherman.

She also said that her brother was arrested after he obtained by court the right to sell products on the right bank. The Ministry of the Interior furnished the Transnistrian special services will comprehensive information about his family members and relatives, putting them in danger too. Now the relatives of Eryomenko are in litigation with the Ministry.

Promo-LEX lawyer Pavel Postica, who represents Vitalie Eryomenko at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), informed that their application will be examined as a matter of urgency.  The comments from the Governments of Moldova and Russia were received. Both of them said they bear no responsibility.

Promo-LEX considers yet that the Moldovan authorities have the leverage needed to help the people who are victims of the illegal Transnistrian regime. Pavel Postica said the constitutional law enforcement bodies can any time verify if the persons held on the left bank of the Nistru committed indeed illegalities and if they can impose the necessary penalties so that these people do not experience the horrors of awful detention.
