Moldovan businesswomen meet in national forum

About 80 Moldovan businesswomen from various fields took part on Tuesday, December 9, in a national forum to discuss the problems they face in developing their businesses. The forum produced a resolution addressed to the Parliament, the Cabinet and party leaders, in which the businesswomen demand measures to increase the representation of women in business and in decision-making processes, IPN reports.

Carmina Vicol, head of the Moldovan Association of Women Entrepreneurs, stressed the need for a national program that would stipulate both legislative changes and financial tools to promote businesses run by women.

Forum participants discussed the opportunities of special continuous training programs for supporting women's entrepreneurship, especially in rural areas. Businesswomen also want to be included through a representation quota in the government's consultation platforms. Another demand of the resolution is the integration of the gender dimension in the school curriculum in order to eliminate gender stereotypes.

The Moldovan Association of Women Entrepreneurs committed to create an online platform with information about financing opportunities and support for women entrepreneurship.

The Forum was organized with the support of UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) and the Moldovan Association of Women Entrepreneurs.
