Moldovan border police receive donation from United States

Six mobile containers purchased through the U.S. Department of State’s EXBS Program have been donated to the Moldovan Border Police. Fredolin Lecari, head of the Border Police, said the containers are needed to ensure proper working conditions for border police officers along the border with Ukraine, IPN reports.

“The support provided will certainly contribute substantially to the development and modernization of the Moldovan border authority, which will increase the operational capabilities of the border police,” said Fredolin Lecari.

Attending the donation event, U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan said these containers will allow the border police to create the infrastructure needed to successfully expand their cooperation with Ukrainian colleagues. The ambassador urged the Government of Moldova to ensure that the border police have sufficient resources for the proper recruitment, training and equipping of officers to carry out joint patrols.

The diplomat has announced assistance worth more than $ 230,000 to be delivered shortly by the U.S. to support joint border control capacities between Moldova and Ukraine.

The EXBS Program’s mission is to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and advanced conventional weapons by providing assistance in strengthening national control systems.
