Moldovan bomb experts annihilated in Iraq 24,518 explosive objects in the first month of their stay there
The sapper team of the National Army, involved in the international post-conflict mission in this state, destroyed 24,518 explosive objects in the first month of their stay in Iraq, according to report of the Ministry of Defence.
The commander of the team, lieutenant-colonel Vitalie Stoian, said that this number of explosive objects of different calibre was destroyed on a land of 31 hectares.
Stoian also noted that moral-psychological situation of the force is satisfactory, all of them doing their duties according to the direction, and the security of bomb experts while these missions are ensured by an American platoon composed of 41 militaries. He mentioned as well after the force have arrived in the region it had to accommodate itself and have a special training, where they familiarised with the conditions of the mission and the special equipment used.
The report also mentioned that the basic mission of the group is to find and destroy the military explosive objects in the responsibility area of Moldovan bomb experts.
Moldova delegated this group of 11 militaries in Iraq after the government of the later one addressed to UN Higher Security Council with the request that Moldovans to be involved in the international operation with humanitarian character post conflict in Iraq, the first two working in September 2003 – March 2004 and July 2004 – February 2005.
