Moldovan authorities should mobilize in Ernest Vardanyan’s case, “Promo-Lex”

The Association “Promo-Lex” believes that the Moldovan authorities should mobilize and take prompt action to ensure the observance of the rights of the Transnistrians, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a communiqué issued following the sentencing of journalist Ernest Vardanyan to 15 years by the Transnistrian authorities, the Association says that the unconstitutional regime takes pseudo-legal decisions in order to defend its statehood and integrity. “Every citizen must be sure that there are organizations that promote the democratic values and are able to guarantee and ensure the observance of the human rights and fundamental freedoms,” said the head of “Promo-Lex” Ion Manole. The Association calls on the international community to lobby for the immediate release of Ernest Vardanyan and for the observance of the democratic values and principles of the European Convention on Human Rights. “Promo-Lex” urges all those who are able to influence the journalist’s release and make sure that he receives a fair trial. After being illegally held for eight months, Ernest Vardanyan was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for treason and espionage for Moldova by the supreme court of Transnistria on December 16, “Promo-Lex” has said.
