Moldovan authorities dismantle international child smuggling ring
The Center for Combating Trafficking in Persons (CCTP) has dismantled an international ring that smuggled Moldovan teenagers to Schengen zone countries, the Ministry of Interiors reported.
A woman, 23, aroused the suspicion of border guards at Leuseni checkpoint as she was trying to take out of the country three minors, ages 13 to 15, using proxies which later proved to be false.
The police established that the teenagers were waited for in Bulgaria by intermediaries who were supposed to give them false ID so that the minors can travel to France to their parents.
Following further investigation, police arrested a man, 25, who is allegedly the brains behind the scheme, and another woman, 43, suspected of complicity.
According to CCTP, the gang has operated for three years, and their overall profits are considered to be great, taking into account that the gang charged a client from 4,000 to 4,500 euros.
