Moldovan authorities congratulate German conservative bloc on victory in parliamentary elections

The Moldovan authorities congratulated Germany's conservative bloc led by Friedrich Merz on its victory in last Sunday's parliamentary elections. President Maia Sandu expressed her desire to extend the bilateral cooperation, stressing the importance of the German leadership for a strong Europe, IPN reports.

In a post on the X platform, Maia Sandu named the leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany Friedrich Merz a good friend of the Republic of Moldova, and sent him a congratulatory message on the occasion of the election victory.

"I look forward to developing our partnership and working together for a stronger, more united and peaceful Europe," said President Sandu.

The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova Igor Grosu noted that this victory is important "for Germany, for Europe and the future of democracy in the world".

Germany's conservative CDU/CSU (Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union) bloc won the snap parliamentary elections held on February 23 in Germany. According to the BBC, the Alliance led by Friedrich Merz won 28.6% of the vote. The far-right party, the Alternative for Germany, is in second place, with 20.8% of the ballot, this being the best score in the history of the party. The Social Democrats led by Olaf Scholz finished third with 16.4% of the poll.
