Moldovan authorities asked to apologize to Ukrainian people

The People’s Movement “Antimafie” requested that the Moldovan government should apologize publicly to the Embassy of Ukraine in Moldova and to the Ukrainian people. In particular, the authorities are accused of allowing profaning the Embassy by members of the Communist Party, who tied dozens of black and orange ribbons, which many consider a symbol of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, on the Embassy’s fence.

In a news conference at IPN, the Movement’s leader Sergiu Mocanu called on the Ministry of Justice to penalize the Communist Party for profaning the Ukrainian Embassy. “The Ministry has the instruments needed to impose penalties against a political party,” he stated.

The politician also said that the authorities should ban the use of the so-called Ribbon of St. Gheorghe by the officials before May 9 and on other occasions. He also called upon the Government to take steps to prevent Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin from coming to Chisinau. In the current conditions, this visit is an act of enmity on the part of Russia as Rogozin was among those who plotted against Moldova during the armed Nistru conflict of 1992.

Sergiu Mocanu said the Moldovan government, from the declaration of independence until present, has been controlled by the secret services of Russia. Furthermore, the Moldovan administration can be blackmailed for the acts of corruption committed until now. Therefore, the authorities will again not take a firm position on the actions of the Communists and on Moscow’s provocations.

In the name of the organization he heads, Sergiu Mocanu personally apologized to the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau and to the Ukrainian people for the Communists’ acts.
