Moldovan authorities acted promptly in case of MAIB share theft, European official
The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel approved of the effort made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat and other Moldovan authorities to return the shares in BC Moldova-Agroindbank (MAIB) to the rightful owners in a short period of time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Being the invitee of the Chisinau Press Club, Dirk Schuebel said that he was preoccupied with this issue throughout August not only because the 28% of the shares in the bank belonged to European investors. He stressed it is important to return the stolen shares not only to the European investors, but also to the other shareholders affected by the raider attacks on banks and companies. According to him, such raider attacks that became known simultaneously become economic events that can have negative consequences not only for the shareholders of the given banks, but also for the image of Moldova’s economy and of the country in general.
“In fact, right in the middle of this critical situation caused by the raider attacks, I appealed to European Commissioner Stefan Fule, who called on the political leaders in Moldova not to use this crisis in all kinds of political bargaining and negotiations that are unacceptable in such conditions. In spite of this polemic, it is ultimately the result that counts – the stolen shares were returned to the rightful owners. We hope that the other cases will be also examined and the shares will be returned to the owners,” said Dirk Schuebel.
