Moldovan arrested in EU citizen kidnapping case

A Moldovan announced wanted by the Interpol was arrested by the police on suspicion of kidnapping a EU citizen and demanding €1 million in ransom from his family, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of the Ministry of the Interior (MAI). The 31-year-old man’s file at the Central National Interpol Bureau describes him as extremely dangerous, armed, violent and prone to escape. The law enforcement agents arrested him at home, in Jeloboc village, Orhei district. According to investigators, the suspect had three accomplices: his 26-year-old brother-in-law and two foreign citizens, one of whom is yet to be identified. On June 26, 2011, the four of them were in the EU. They captured a man at gunpoint right outside his house, cuffed him and held him prisoner for two weeks. In the Moldovan’s house, the police found two sniper rifles, a semiautomatic gun and a pistol with three magazines, as well as hundreds of cartridges of various types, including some with explosive bullets. A large part of the ammo was owned illegally. The man is held in custody and prosecuted according the EU criminal legislation.
