Moldovan architects to learn to restore historical monuments according to new methods
Specialists in restoration of historical monuments will be able to
improve their skills and learn new ones within a school-workshop that
will be opened in spring by the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai
Eminescu” in partnership with the Agency for Monument Inspection and
Restoration of the Ministry of Culture, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In a news conference on September 8, Romanian Cultural Institute
director Petre Guran said the idea of opening a school-workshop appeared
after about 10 restoration specialists took part in three workshops in
Romania. “We intend to open a similar workshop in Moldova, where
restoration will go hand in hand with the school and formation,” he
stated.
According to Petre Guran, the Institute and the Ministry of Culture are
now drawing up the documents needed to create and open the workshop. He
did not want to make public the name of the prototype building.
Director of the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration Ion
Stefanita said that Moldova lags behind in restoring the historical
moments and the Romanian Cultural Institute’s initiative is welcome. “If
we have such specialists, we will be able to stop the works to change
the authenticity and originality of the historical monuments in
Moldova,” said Ion Stefanita.
The participants in the workshops in Romania, who included Moldovan
architects and scientific researchers, said they found out new practices
in the neighboring country. They stressed that their major principle is
to keep as much of the historical monument as possible and to destroy
the least.
According to the Agency for Monument Inspection and Restoration, there
are more than 1 500 historical monuments in Moldova.
