The police trade union “Dignity” of Moldova and the National Trade Union of Police Officers and Contractual Personnel of the Vaslui Local Bureau and the Vaslui Police Inspectorate plan to implement a number of crossborder cooperation projects and campaigns. The sides signed a partnership agreement, which forms part of the EU policies aimed at improving cooperation between the local communities in the border areas, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on November 4, “Dignity” chairman Mihail Lascu said the partnership agreement will enable to achieve results in the activity of the law endorsement bodies and in the cooperation between society and the police. He said the projects will help to develop closer relations between the countries, the police and the trade unions. Barlad police commissioner Vasile Chelaru said the trade unions intend to increase the society’s confidence in the law enforcement bodies and to make the people feel that they are protected. He voiced hope that this project will contribute to establishing closer cooperation relations between the police in Romania and Moldova and to exchanging good practices. “The key objective is to remove certain barriers hindering the activity of the police officers who are members of the two trade unions,” said Vasile Chelaru. Paul Neamtu, the head of the National Trade Union of Police Officers and Contractual Personnel of the Vaslui Local Bureau, said he wants the relations between the police officers in Moldova and Romania to be harmonized so as to better deal with joint and similar problems. “We must find those harmonization and cooperation solutions at both levels,” said Paul Neamtu. The participants in the crossborder cooperation project expressed their conviction that together they will manage to achieve results in maintaining order at the border. The project is financed with funds allocated by the EU within the Europe Neighborhood and Partnership Instrument.
