Moldovan and Romanian officials do not give details about discussions on Convention on Small Border Trafficking
The Moldovan and Romanian officials have not provided details about the discussions on the Convention on Small-Scale Border Traffic. They were to discuss the given subject on May 28, while the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Valeriu Ostalep was paying a working visit to Bucharest, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The releases posted on the official websites of the foreign ministries of the two countries announces only that Valeriu Ostalep met with the Secretary of State at the Romanian Foreign Ministry Raduta Matache and with the head of the European Affairs Department Adrian Ciocanea and discussed possibilities of strengthening cooperation between Romania and Moldova with the aim of actively supporting Moldova’s European integration and the implementation of reforms in Moldova.
They also discussed the chances of making headway with the talks on the draft Basic Treaty and Border Treaty. They considered methods of implementing assistance projects, aspects of the consular cooperation and the cancellation of the transit visas that the Moldovans holding Schengen visas need to cross Romania.
Raduta Matache reiterated that Romania will support Moldova on the path to European integration. For his part, Valeriu Ostalep asked the EU member states to help Moldova obtain a mandate for talks in 2008 and informed about the steps that the Moldovan authorities will take to achieve the major objectives in the relations with the EU. No other details were offered.
